As a Mum of 2 kids (+ manchild) who works full-time, time is not something I have a lot of. I was lucky enough to be gifted a HelloFresh subscription to trial and review. I was pretty excited about the concept because 1, it would it take the guesswork out of dinner time, 2 save us money on our weekly shop and 3, Introduce new and healthy options to all of us.
Cooking is something I have never really been good at, I am not a fan of baking or cooking things from scratch but have totally mastered chicken nuggets in the air-fryer. Yes, I am that mum. I spend way too much money at the supermarket every week buying meat that I take out with good intentions and then get busy and a bit lazy so I just end up cooking noodles. Having HelloFresh has really given me a boot up the bum to be more creative with meal times, to think outside the box (see what I did there) and to experiment.
It really was cool to be able to involve the kids when it came to unpacking the box, looking at the recipes and having them help me put everything away. I love the convenience of having each meal in a separate colour coded bag – it makes for easy storage and quicker preparation when all you need to do is grab the bag and get started. The pre-packaged meals are colour coded to the recipe cards which makes it visually so simple to see what each bag is. The recipes are super easy to follow with simple step by step instructions. I also love that they have a mobile app which is easy to navigate and allows you to swipe through each step of the recipe.
The meals are created by a certified nutritionist so I know my kids are getting all the nutrients they need to grow big and strong.
While my plating skills may not have been as on point as pictured on the recipe – it tasted delicious! Simple things like adding sesame seeds to home-made chips, why did I not know about this sooner? Honey-soy chicken! OMG. I really did live in a bubble and HelloFresh has kickstarted my journey to discovering tasty and affordable dinner options.
One of our biggest problems as a family is that we’re creatures of habit and I am mainly to blame for this due to my fussy eating habits, I am constantly worrying about these bad habits rubbing off on the kids. The thing that I really loved about HelloFresh is the variety it introduced to me and the kids (Reuben isn’t so sheltered) and the simple additions that can turn a meal from ordinary to delicious!
If you can relate to some of the above or are sick of searching the cupboards or Pinterest for new dinner ideas then order your first box now and get $35 off by using the code NEWMUMCLUB
